It has been a very busy summer. One of the things that has been keeping me on my toes is the extended visit from my sister and niece. It has been nice having them around, but I have to admit, I am ready for my nice quiet house again.
Nearly a two years ago I had an idea for a painting featuring my niece. She is an energetic, bright and caring child. There are times, however, she becomes introspective. During these rare times she is quiet and thoughtful. I wanted to show here at this moment when she seems wise beyond her years. I took my time to come up with the perfect setting, costume and props. Then came organizing the photo shoot with my model. It took three shoots. The biggest challenge was, once the dress was on, my niece instantly became a fairy princess who wanted nothing more than to laugh and twirl. I could not explain my concept to a six year old. Patience was the key. After over 400 images, I finally got the one I was looking for.
That was late last spring. I had quite a few works in progress at the time so I waited to start this painting. Then four weeks ago I thought it would be nice to finish the painting before my niece had to go home.
It took a lot of late nights and working through the weekend, but I did it! Her reaction was priceless. "Wow, you did such a good job on my hair!" she squealed. Then she gave me a hug and whispered "I love it, thank you".
No, thank you Miss Evie!
